Huge Sets: The Trend Started Again

Update: 2018-03-21 13:00 GMT
Filmmakers erect huge sets to reflect the theme and sometimes they shoot majority portion of the shoot in the sets itself.  It is known that senior directors like Gunasekhar are known for erecting huge sets for their films.  Charminar set in 'Okkadu'.. Madhura Meenakshi temple set in 'Arjun' stand out in his career.  Somehow the trend of erecting sets got slowed down later.   Now,  majority of the filmmakers are going for huge sets and the trend started again.

If we talk about the upcoming films, Koratala Siva has erected a huge Assembly set for Mahesh film 'Bharat Ane Nenu'.  He didn't settle with only assembly set..  there other sets like CM's office, Temple set etc in the film.   Director Sukumar is working on 'Rangasthalam'.  A huge village set has been erected for the film near Bhoot Bangalow area...60% of the shoot has been completed in this set.  Apart from the village set, makers erected village fair set.. bungalow set etc.

Megastar Chiranjeevi movie 'Sye Raa' also requires huge sets because it is a historical film.  They have already erected huge set for the film and director Surender Reddy is presently shooting in the set.   Sudheer Varma is directing a mafia backdrop film with Sharwanand.  The film unit is erecting a huge set worth Rs.1 crore for the film.

This is about Tollywood.. If we take Shankar he is fascinated towards huge sets.  His upcoming film '2.0' movie boasts of huge sets like a stadium.  Shankar's next project is 'Indian 2' and a huge set worth Rs. 8 crores is getting readied in Ramoji Film City for this film.

Erecting sets for the sake of sets is a wrong thing to do. If we talk about 'Baahubali', Mahishmati kingdom and the story can't be separated.  If the movie requires a set and the story has good content, then these sets will surely help the movie.  If the movie doesn't have good content, the expenditure on the sets will turn out to be an unnecessary burden for the producer.
