"Okkadu" is the first ever blockbuster of Superstar Mahesh Babu that inspired many other heroes to take up commercial action flicks to new level. Directed by Gunasekhar and produced by MS Raju, the film's iconic Charminar set is still the much talked about aspect. However, there is a film inspiration behind this story.
It is revealed that director Gunasekhar got heavily inspired by the film "West Side Story" where two rival gangs clash with each other. This is the solid inspiration behind writing Kabaddi drama, says Gunasekhar to which he added seema faction angle and brought a cute love story. Back then the film was made with 14 crores even though Gunasekharâs Mrugaraju and MS Raju's Deviputrudu are utter flops previously. The film went on to become a highest grosser then.
