Is Pushpa The Rise based on Narcos web series?

Update: 2021-12-20 10:11 GMT
Pushpa The Rise film released on 17th December to biggest opening day during and after pandemic. Hype surrounding the movie has been phenomenal and the numbers from box office collections of first weekend prove that.

Movies these days tend to be front-loaded that is, they earn up to their maximum potential in the first week or first weekend itself. If you make a one time watchable film, then you need more and more new viewers to come and watch the film, hence, film has to be worthy for them to come to theatres and spend their hard earned money, how much ever it might be.

Some feel that is not worthy as they tend to follow reviews, mouth talk and attend spoiler discussions. They form their opinions based on these feedbacks and then relate it to word-of-mouth prevailing on social media and then decide on whether to watch it at theatres or wait for OTT or Satellite.

Looks like Pushpa The Rise will find it difficult to sustain momentum that it showed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on first Monday. It is common for any film to have a drop on Monday after such a huge opening weekend as many who wanted to watch it might have watched it during those three days with wide release.

So, repeat audiences are a big problem for any big budget film. Rajamouli understood that quite early and he started mounting his films with interesting themes and genres. He mixed National Integration and Freedom Struggle themes to multi-starrer ensemble film. RRR looks like a film that will force viewers to go for a second watch at least in Telugu circuits, as there are two stars like NTR, Ram Charan.

Even if film gets mixed reviews or talk, this casting will surely help it to play for three to four weeks at the box office with good crowds. Both actors are coming with a gap of three to four years from their last release and hence, fans will want to watch it at least once again to just witness their stars on screen.

This is all to help you and us as well understand how important making films that are unique, that have repeat value - is important these days. Pushpa The Rise team definitely faltered in that aspect.

Scenes in the movie definitely looked like we have seen them somewhere. Deja vu of watching numerous "mass commercial" films and web series like Narcos might have contributed to this factor as well.

Right from hero introduction scene till the end card, people feel like Sukumar couldn't come up with his originality for this film. You will remember Narcos more than others but there are other films like Salman Khan's Dabangg, Sukumar's Jagadam, Prabhas's Yogi, Nagarjuna's Ragada, Prithviraj's Ayyapanum Koshiyum with only difference being Allu Arjun in a different get up.

With such a get up, you expect a more realistic film but Sukumar decided to go authenticity only in looks and setting to some extent but not scenes. The introduction scene, marriage scene, confrontational scenes, Ajay stopping engagement scene, even characters like Jaali Reddy, Kondareddy and Mangalam Srinu feel like they have walked out of Narcos and Sacred Games, Mirzapur universe to Pushpa Raj universe.

Nothing feels original. Even though genre specifics for a gangster and mafia based films are to be followed but even characters looking like they have been either inspired or reworked watching those series, films took away the cream from a cake like Allu Arjun's humongous effort to pull off such a difficult character.

Sukumar kind of a director and writer can come up with his original story and scenes. Atleast people hope that he does. Even SS Rajamouli said that he has the capabilities to shock anyone. Hope for his next film Pushpa The Rule, he doesn't work in hurry and resort to any kind of "short-cuts" that will damage his image and his film as well.

All we hope is to see a great film from a great director and such gigantic effort from actors like Allu Arjun again and again, in successful films which will definitely take Telugu cinema to Global cinema standards.
