A lot of film releases got postponed due to Coronavirus. Many producers have kept their films on holding hoping for a theatrical release. Also, a lot of films need to wrap up their shooting first and sources say that the work may start once again from the second week of June as many are expecting the lockdown to be lifted by then.
Many films including small, medium and big films are in line to hit the screens as soon as possible by completing the rest of the shooting or post-production works. There is a talk that the theatres will get opened from August and many movies will be ready to release by then which means that there will be heavy competition for the release dates.
Post the first wave, we witnessed the same scenario where 3-4 films released every week between January and March. Despite having dozens of releases only a few survived the competition and ended up being successful. There were some films which couldâve been a hit if not for the competition. Looking at the current situation, we may see the same thing happening once again.
The Producers Guild and other associations are silent for now and we need to wait and see how things go on. There are a few filmmakers who are trying to avoid this competition while most of the small and medium films are seeing this as the right time to release their films. So, analysts say that the audience might see a lot of small films coming into the theatres first followed by mid-level films. They are saying that the big films have zero chance of releasing this in 2021. Hope that it is not the scenario!
