With elections just few weeks away, where is Rahul Gandhi? This question created quite a buzz. Interestingly, the Congress worthies are not even trying to answer this question. The party leaders were evasive about the whereabouts of Rahul Gandhi and his trusted aides had even refused to take a call.
But, slowly it emerged that Rahul Gandhi has left for Combodia in a private plane. He is there on a 'personal' trip. His visit is taking place at a time when the Congress Party is fighting with its back to wall in both Maharashtra and Haryana. The Congress has no star campaigners at all as Sonia Gandhi is unwell and is unable to campaign. Similarly, Priyanka appeal is limited. The only other star campaigner for the party is Rahul Gandhi and he is out of the country now.
Interestingly, Rahul left the country on Saturday itself, while the party had an important meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Only Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Priyanka Gandhi and former external affairs minister Anand Sharma were present at the meeting. Rahul Gandhi was conspicuous by his absence.
Rahul Gandhi is known to leave the country abruptly on private visits. Immediately after the Congress loss in the Lok Sabha elections, he has left the country on a vacation. Earlier too, he had gone on foreign visits. With the Congress fighting a very difficult and very important battle, Rahul Gandhiâs absence is bound to shock the already demoralised party cadre.
