Renowned Telugu character artist, Jagapthi Babu reinvented himself as an actor with Nandamuri Balakrishna's Legend. He played a powerful antagonist in the film and thanks to his stunning performance, Jagapathi Babu bagged several other opportunities. In a way, Legend rejuvenated Jagapathi Babu's career. However, Jagapathi Babu's latest comments imply that he didn't entirely enjoy working on the Boyapati Sreenu directorial. In fact, he vowed not to act in films like Legend ever again in his career. Wonder what happened? Here is the entire story as revealed by Balakrishna himself.
"When the director first approached me with Legend's script I was genuinely excited. He said the protagonist - antagonist track in the film will be like a heated battle between a lion and a tiger. But that wasn't to be the case. It was a cacophony, to say the least. My character in the film was nowhere near what I was promised. Let alone the lion - tiger battle, my character wasn't potent enough even to be called a rabbit. All the scenes were intended to highlight and elevate the protagonist. All my character had to do was get bashed up by the protagonist. In one of the scenes, I had to hit the hero and so did I. But his reaction(in the scene) was so very very blatant. He doesn't even faze while I hit him. Such was the grieve injustice done to my character in Legend. That is when I decided not to act in films like these. Henceforth, I will only act in films if I completely like the script. I would like to act under my own terms," Jagapathi Babu said.
It seems to be that Jagapathi Babu felt his character in Balayya's Legend humiliated him as an actor and the fact that he has vowed not to act in films like these proves the same. He is currently working on biggies like Salaar and Sarkaru Vaari Paata which are in various stages of production. Apart from these two, Jagapathi Babu is said to be working on 9 other projects. More details about the same will be out in the due course.
