'Kantara' Wins The Weekend Race Out Of 5!

Update: 2022-10-17 07:59 GMT
Including the new releases and films which were already running in theatres, five films competed at the box office this weekend and it is safe to say that a Kannada dubbed film 'Kantara' won the race comfortably.

This film was released on 15th October in Telugu and the hype was quite high as the critics praised this film quite heavily. It was the highest-rated film on IMDb and the ratings were high in BookMyShow too. Reaching everyone's expectations, the film impressed everyone and the Telugu audience received it with open arms. The collections were quite good during the weekend and it has surely entered the profit zone already. We need to see how it performs during the weekdays.

Megastar's 'Godfather' stands second in the list as the collections were quite weak in the last few days. The film opened to positive reports and got good collections during the first weekend. But the collections dipped massively during the second week and trade pundits claim that it is yet to reach the breakeven mark due to the high pre-release business. We need to see if this remake enters the profit zone or not.

Aadi Saikumar arrived with another film last Friday with a movie named 'Crazy Fellow'. With the string of flops Aadi had in the past couple of years, the collections are very weak and the talk is quite poor. Digangana Suryavanshi and Mirnaa Menon are the heroines in this film while Saptagiri, Narra Srinivas, Anish Kuruvilla, Vinodhini Vaidyanathan, Ravi Prakash, Pawan, Priya Hegde, Deepthi Naidu and others play vital roles. Made under 'Sri Sathya Sai Arts', KK Radha Mohan bankrolled this project while Phani Krishna Siriki wrote and directed it.

Another youthful romantic comedy 'Boyfriend For Hire' came last weekend. The promos and songs caught the attention of the audience and people expected a lot from this movie. But the content is not at all impressive and it has been declared a flop right after the morning shows. The collections are very poor and the theatrical run of this film will end in no time. Viswant Duddumpudi is the hero while Malavika Satheeshan is the heroine. Santosh Kambhampati is the director of this film.

The last in the race is 'Ponniyin Selvan - 1'. This magnum opus period drama directed by Mani Ratnam might have been a huge blockbuster in Tamil Nadu but it is not getting any love outside of it. Despite the decent collections during the first weekend, the audience were not at all interested in watching the film in the second week. The Telugu version has turned out to be a flop on the commercial front despite a stellar cast like Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
