Horror Comedy genre made Producers jump in joy in the past 3-4 years. Even dubbed or remake subjects have done exceedingly well in both the languages. Last year, Sundar C's super hit flick 'Aranmanai' was dubbed in Telugu as 'Chandrakala' which has done decent business. A sequel to that movie 'Aranmanai 2' was dubbed in Telugu as 'Kalavathi'. Did the trick work again or not?

Synopsis:

Murali (Siddharth) comes to his native village along with his soon-to-be-wife Anitha (Trisha) upon knowing about the severe health condition of his father. Within no time, Every one will come to know about the existense of spirits in the mansion they live. Who is the ghost haunting the people in the palace? How many of them will survive the curse? Watch 'Kalavathi' to know more…!

Performances:

Trisha is the major attraction in 'Kalavathi'. Increase Glamour Dose & Scenes of transformation into ghost worked in her favor. The role played by Siddharth isn't something special that we often expect from him. Hansika does what was needed for her character perfectly.

Sundar C has done well in a role that resembles to that Rajinikanth in 'Chandramukhi'. Suri-Kovai Sarala-Manobala entertains to the fullest. Poonam Bajwa and Radha Ravi were aptly cast.

Pros:

Trisha

Comedy

Second Half

Cons:

Predictable

Visual Effects

Technicalities:

Songs composed by Hip Hop Tamiz were below par. He, however, compensates with good BGM. Camera Work is top notch. Production Values are impressive. Dialogues were well written. Sundar C who is known for his knack of generating humor yet again leaves his mark. At the same time, He should take the blame for opting for a routine format to achieve success.

Analysis:

Yet again the age old Horror Comedy format 'Mystery Deaths in Palace due to existence of Spirits-Ghost's entry in Interval Block-Flashback in Second Half-Godman/Priest Entry-Yagam in climax for happy ending' has been used again for 'Kalavathi'. The sequel is similar to 'Chandrakala' in every sense and it also reminds us of the many of the horror-comedy films in the recent past. So, 'Kalavathi' doesn't guarantee a new experience but strictly a time-pass fare.

Though it lacks edge-of-the-seat horror elements, 'Kalavathi' entertains comedy blocks & other commercial ingredients. Humour generated by Parota Suri is the major highlight of the movie and all of his scenes with Kovai Sarala were a laugh riot.

Sundar C ensured 'Kalavathi' had enough glamour quotient. Trisha will be seen in the most glamorous manner, especially in the beach song with Siddharth. Even though Flashback looks routine, The screenplay in the last 45 minutes were gripping. Combo scenes of Trisha-Suri & Hotel Episode will tickle the funny bone.

'Kalavathi' is so predictable from start to finish, but Sundar C designed the Climax in a thrilling manner. He made sure the film has got everything for the masses. In particular, Second Half is far more entertaining than the First Half.

Bottom Line: Routine yet Entertaining!!
