C/o Kancharapalem' was denied the opportunity to apply for National Film Awards based on the fact that its Producer is a US Citizen. This development stirred a controversy following the Tweet of Producer Praveena Paruchuri to Narendra Modi, KTR and Chandrababu Naidu. 'C/o Kancharapalem' was made in India, by Indians, with Indians, released in India and appreciated by Indians. Yet is not eligible for #NationalFilmAwards,' she wrote.
Quickly, KTR brought the issue to the notice of I&B Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore. The Concerned Minister replied to KTR that Producer or at least Co-Producer should be an Indian to apply for National Film Awards. He also advised the Producer to apply for the National Film Awards in the name of Co-Producer D Suresh Babu who is an Indian Citizen.
Did Praveena Paruchuri got justice? NO! Why because, D Suresh Babu will receive the honors instead of Praveena if 'C/o Kancharapalem' bags a National Award. All that Suresh Babu had done was marketing the movie on behalf of Suresh Productions and helping it obtain sufficient number of theatres.
