Recently, well-known director Lingusamy made some public comments regarding the Telugu film industry which created a lot of sensation. A lot of people in the Telugu states are angry over his threatening statements and it is turning out to be a major controversy. While the bigwigs of Tollywood remain silent, Lingusamy needs to know some facts before making such remarks.
No other audience in the entire country are as welcoming as the Telugu folk. Right from the beginning, they have welcomed many Tamil star heroes like Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Suriya, Karthi, Vishal and many others. There are times when Tamil films worked well in AP and Telangana compared to Tamil Nadu. A lot of dubbing films got supreme collections in Telugu states which includes some of his movies like 'Pandem Kodi' and 'Awara'.
Heroes are Vijay, Dhanush, Ajith, Siva Karthikeyan and others are yet to create a solid market in Telugu but some of their dubbed films ended up in profits here too. Good content is always loved by the audience here. Vijay, Dhanush and SK are working with Telugu directors now in order to get more familiar with Telugu audience and they are not doing any favours to the audience but themselves.
On the other hand, Telugu films never got good reception in Tamil Nadu and our stars failed to penetrate the Tamil market even today. Barring a few like 'Baahubali' and 'Pushpa', none of the films did well in Tamil Nadu and there were heavy trolls on stars like Mahesh and Pawan Kalyan too. Coming to Lingusamy, it was a Telugu hero Ram Pothineni who gave him a chance when no other Tamil heroes gave him a chance.
On the topic of Sankranti releases, can anyone predict how many theatres will a Telugu film get in Tamil Nadu while Vijay and Ajith's films are releasing at the same time? But it looks like Lingusamy is expecting the buyers to give a huge chunk of theatres to a dubbing film in the midst of big releases like Chiranjeevi's 'Waltair Veerayya' and Balakrishna's 'Veera Simha Reddy'. Nonetheless, there were many instances where Tamil films performed well despite the competition. 'Vikram' is the big recent example of it.
Lingusamy is neither helping Vijay's 'Varisu' team nor himself with such harsh comments. It looks like he just wanted to get in the good books of Vijay and other Tamil stars by raising the sentiments of Tamil people unnecessarily.
