Two forthcoming Telugu films, Maha Samudram and Varudu Kavalenu have landed in big trouble even before releasing in theaters. The makers of these two projects are now facing legal charges for releasing controversial promotional content that is against the interests of those who believe in the Hindu religion. Two independent groups have lodged police complaints against the makers of Maha Samudram and Varudu Kavalenu respectively. Here are more details about the ongoing controversy pertaining to these two films.
As for Varudu Kavalenu, the makers had recently released a new song from the album with the title 'Digu Digu Naga'. A few might recognize this traditional folk song. Incidentally, the BJP Mahila Morcha Wing, Andhra Pradesh has raised a complaint against the makers of the film for allegedly infusing hurtful lyrics in the song, which belittle the 'Naga Devatha' god. BJP Mahila Morcha Wing president, Bindu Reddy has filed a police complaint in Nellore, saying this song humiliates Hindu culture. Her argument was strengthened by a few other members of BJP Mahila Morcha. Nellore police have registered the complaint and further investigation will determine the progress in this case. Sithara Entertainments and Anantha Sriram who had penned the lyrics for Digu Digu Naga are the prime accused in this complaint.
On the other hand, the makers of Maha Samudram are also facing a very similar problem. Netizens have found the recently released 'Rambha' song from the film objectionable. Twitter users have been breathing fire on the makers for placing derogatory lyrics in this particular song. A netizen pointed out that "In this song, the lyrics say Hindu gods lifted Govardhana giri, why can't commoners like us lift a bottle of liquor?". Netizens are finding fault with these lyrics and they are threatening to take legal action against the makers of Maha Samudram for this reason.
The makers of neither of these two films have responded to the legal action and the social media hate that is brewing against them. Incidentally, both these films had wrapped up the shoot and are gearing up for theatrical release. The makers would want to settle these disputed ahead of the release.
