Update: 2020-02-16 11:50 GMT
Mani Ratnam has been looking for a suitable replacement after Keerthy Suresh walked out of his film for Rajni's next.

The legendary director found, Shobitha Dhulipala as the right replacement after few screen tests, it seems.

The role requires the actress to be a dancer, who can pull off Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi, it seems.

As Shobitha is a good dancer, she got the nod ahead of others in the race. Mani Ratnam is making his dream project, Ponniyin Selvan with a cast like Jayam Ravi, Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha and several others.

Movie deals with Arulmozhi Varman, later known as Raja Raja Chola's journey as a simple soldier to King of Chola Dynasty.

Ponniyin Selvan is a semi-biographical historic novel by Kalki Krishnamoorthy. Including the original writer, many tried to adapt the best selling novel of Tamil literature into a movie from long time, but it finally happened with Mani Ratnam as director.

Movie will come in two parts and first part is scheduled for a release next year. The shoot is going in forests of Thailand and team will move to Srilanka for next schedule. Mani Ratnam and Lyca Productions are producing the film in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and English languages.
