Nag Ashwin is coming with Mahanati, Savitri biopic, on 9th May. The director of Yevadu Subramanyam talked to press on Monday.
He said, "I had a thought to make biopic on Savitri from a long time. I did not think I will do it as my second film.
I had many thoughts after Yevade Subramanyam, but Savitri biopic to be the most important for me.
If I do this after getting a big success or failure, I thought my judgement would be clouded by that experience and I won't be telling the story properly.
We stayed true to what we found and there are many books written on her. Many photos of her too. We tried to base our story on them and we have many tidbits from bygone era actors who closely worked with her in those books and hence, we haven't met other living legends for inputs.
We felt we had all the stuff to imagine and re-imagine them. There will be a seamless interlink between her films and her real life.
We tried to be honest to the story and not take sides while telling an interesting person's story without making it a docu-drama."
He finally revealed that the team never approached any other actor for NTR's role except for Jr. NTR and they did a few digitizing tricks to use Sr. NTR's cameo in the movie.
He said that he zeroed in on Keerthy Suresh as he needed someone young and has innocence to carry the role of teenage Savitri to her old age.
He confirmed that the film will show the last days of Savitri but the film will be more of a celebration than just pathos.
