Rajamouli's magnum opus 'RRR' is being made on a budget of around 400 crores. The film is expected to hit the screens on 30th July this year but it got postponed all the way to January 8th 2021. This affected the plans of other filmmakers very badly and many hoped that all the films planned for Pongal release may get postponed. But it may not happen which affects the prospects of 'RRR'.
A film of 'RRR' level needs to get a solo release in order to recover its investment and get profits in all languages. It happened for 'Baahubali'. But the situation is not the same this time. 'RRR' is coming on 8th January and it faces a tough competition in Telugu market itself from two of biggest stars in Tollywood. Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's 27th film directed by Krish is planning to get released on 8/9th January followed by superstar Mahesh Babu's 27th film with Vamsi Paidipally which arrives on 13th January as per sources.
The schedule is even packed in Tamil as Thalapathy Vijay's 65th is arriving on 14th January and the most prestigious 'Indian 2' directed by legendary director Shankar is also coming on the same date. South Indian market is very important for 'RRR' and shockingly all the big stars have lined up their films during Pongal. We need to wait and see if these films make way for 'RRR' or Rajamouli postpones the film all the way to summer 2021 to get a solo release.
