Om Puri slashed his Remuneration for Telugu Movie

Om Puri played a key role in the National-Award Winning Telugu film 'Ankuram' (1993) which is based on the atrocities against tribals, human rights violation and naxalism. This is the only Telugu movie he acted in his career.

Director Uma Maheswara Rao met Om Puri for the narration of 'Ankuram'. Upon completion of the narration, He agreed to act in the movie immediately. Shoot of 'Ankuram' happened in Rajahmundry. On the sets, Om Puri & Director used to converse in English. Om Puri cut his remuneration as he liked the subject and asked the Director to promote the movie well. He breathed life into the role of a Tribal who faces atrocities. In fact, He have only three sentences to speak in the movie and that too in the Climax despite having good screen time.

'Ankuram' bagged two National Awards - National Award for Best Regional Film & National Award for Best Director.

Four months ago, Uma Maheswara Rao came in touch with Om Puri. The actor even agreed to be part of his new project 'Amrapali'. Sudden demise of the acclaimed actor came as a shock to the Senior Director.
