OTT Release Of 'Vakeel Saab' To Have A Negative Effect On Tollywood!

Update: 2021-04-28 07:13 GMT
Powerstar Pawan Kalyan's 'Vakeel Saab' was released on April 9th and turned out to be a good hit. Directed by Venu Sriram, it is a remake of the Hindi film 'Pink' and Pawan's aggressive portrayal of Human Rights lawyer Satyadev impressed the audience a lot. Now, the film is all set to meet the audience on the digital platform. This courtroom drama will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video from 30th April. People who couldn't watch it in theatres are quite excited about it but it has opened up a new discussion.

A film of such magnitude releasing on an OTT platform within 21 days of its release is going to give a problem to other big films as per experts. The same was done in Tamil for Vijay's 'Master' too. If a star hero film releases digitally within a month of its theatrical release, the audience may not be enthusiastic about going to theatres in the hope of watching it on an OTT platform in the span of few weeks. This will damage the revenue and business prospects of the theatre trade.

Few months back, producers have come to a conclusion that they need to maintain a gap of at least 4-6 weeks for either OTT or satellite premiere. But the Coronavirus turned everything upside down. 'Vakeel Saab' managed to get blockbuster collections in the first weekend but the money dropped suddenly due to the virus outbreak. People were reluctant to walk into the theatres which led to the OTT platforms gaining more importance.

There were rumors about 'Vakeel Saab' having a digital release soon during the time of its release but Dil Raju himself clarified that 'Vakeel Saab' should be watched only in theatres. But the sudden turn of events left the makers with no other option than to allow the OTT release. This need not be the scenario for all the big films in the future.
