Amid various threats & Censor issues, Viacom18 Motion Pictures which produced 'Padmavati' took the tough call of postponing the release. So, The historical flick isn't going to release on December 1st, 2017. A new release date will be announced upon receiving the Censor clearance.
Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) sent back the application moved by 'Padmavati' Makers for Censor screening & certificate citing inappropriate filing. Once after the Makers submit the application with required corrections, CBFC will check if it comply with the rules and then certify the movie.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali of 'Devdas', 'Ram Leela' & 'Bajirao Mastani' fame directed 'Padmavati'. Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor essay lead roles in the period film. Rajput Karni Sena caused obstructions to the shoot and even manhandled Bhansali for alleged false portrayal of a romantic relationship between Queen Padmini & Muslim ruler Alauddin Khilji. A member of the outfit threatened to cut Deepika's nose. An offer of Rs 5 crore was announced on the head of Bhansali & Deepika by a member of another Hindu Organisation. UP Government didn't approve release of the film on December 1st due to local body polls. Karni Sena threatened to call for Bharat Bandh on Dec 1st. All these factors forced the production house to delay the release.
