Police complaint against Telangana MP for threatening CM

A complaint was lodged with police here Saturday against a MP from Telangana for threatening to shoot Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy's helicopter if he visited Karimnagar district.

Mala Mahanadu president Karam Shivaji lodged a complaint against Ponnam Prabhakar at S. R. Nagar police station in Hyderabad.

Shivaji is also leader of Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee, which is fighting to keep Andhra Pradesh united.

Police in Karimnagar Friday booked a suo moto case against the MP for threatening the chief minister. A police officer said they collected video recording of the MP's press conference and were investigating.

During the press conference Thursday, the Lok Sabha member from Karimnagar had said that he would finish the chief minister if he visited the district.

He had even gestured with his hands to indicate that he would shoot the helicopter in which the chief minister would visit Karimnagar.

Prabhakar was referring to the chief minister's proposed visit to inaugurate an irrigation project. "How can he visit the district when is opposing formation of a separate Telangana state?" the MP asked.

He later clarified he had made the statement to convey the anger of Telangana people. "I am not an extremist or terrorist. I don't have weapons," he said.
