The trend of re-releases is going on in Tollywood right now. Ever since fans of Mahesh Babu had a grand release of their hero's biggest hit 'Pokiri' on the occasion of his birthday, a lot of other hero fans are trying to repeat it. Pawan Kalyan fans enjoyed watching 'Jalsa' again in theatres and Balakrishna's fans went made see 'Chenna Keshava Reddy' on big screens again. For Megastar's birthday, many of Chiru's films like 'Gang Leader', 'Gharana Mogudu' and others were re-released.
The response to these re-releases were phenomenal and people flocked into theatres to watch these super hits once again. With Prabhas' birthday arriving soon, fans of the 'Baahubali' hero too planned to re-release his previous films and enjoy it on big screens once again. But they are finding it difficult to pick a cult mass movie that can be enjoyed on the big screens.
They are planning to release movies like 'Rebel', 'Varsham' and 'Billa' but the response is not as expected. According to reports, prior to 'Baahubali', Prabhas did not have many blockbusters. They cannot re-release 'Baahubali' as it is too early. 'Varsham' is a pure love story that does not have many mass moments for fans to enjoy. 'Rebel' is a colossal failure and ended up with huge losses back in 2012. The movie is over-the-top and barring an interval episode, it had nothing impressive.
Coming to 'Billa', it was not a huge hit in 2008. Though a lot of people love the film for Prabhas' stylish looks and songs, it cannot be termed as a cult film that fans want to see on big screens again despite watching repeatedly on television. While there is 'Chatrapathi' which has a lot of mass moments, not a lot of Prabhas' movies have aged well. There are a few complaints regarding the planning of the re-release too as people don't want to see averages and flops on big screens again. Let us wait and see what happens.
