Ever since Malayalam flick 'Premam' went on to become a blockbuster, There is lot of curiosity on the cast & crew of its Telugu remake. The buzz picked up soon after Naga Chaitanya and 'Karthikeya' fame Chandoo Mondeti joined hands. Casting of Shruti Haasan, Anupama and Madonna as female leads has only made the project something special. While Music by Gopi Sundar & Rajesh Murugesan already topped the charts, Theatrical Release happened Today as Dussehra special. Let's see if the magic of the original is recreated or not...
Synopsis:
'Premam' is actually the journey of Vikram aka Vicky (Naga Chaitanya) covering three different phases of his life. In Teenage, Vikram have a crush on Suma (Anupama Parameswaran). Whereas, He falls madly in love with Sitara (Shruti Haasan) in his college days. By the time he settles down, He believes Sindhu (Madonna Sebatian) is his soulmate. What impact did the three beauties have on the life of Vikram and whom among them does he marry forms the rest of the tale.
Performances:
Naga Chaitanya owned the character of Vicky so well. He showed remarkable variations in all the three phases and gave a career-best performance. Immature looks and body language as a teenage is simply superb. In the college episode, He appears as a rough n tough guy yet maintains the lover boy image. Not to forget the matured performance towards the end of movie. He just simply excelled in the heart-break sequence and phone conversation with a friend during the pre-climax.
All the lead heroines have played their parts to perfection. Comparisons with Sai Pallavi couldn't be avoided but one must say Shruti Hassan has done a pretty good job. Anupama's role have less screen time compared to the other two but she didn't disappoint. Viewers will fall in love with the smile and histrionics of Madonna Sebastian.
Praveen, Srinivas Reddy, Brahmaji and Narra Seenu generate humor. Krishna Chaitanya is aptly cast. Pruthvi is impressive. Cameos of Nagarjuna and Venkatesh were special attractions.
Pros:
Naga Chaitanya
Venky's Cameo
Music
Direction
Soul of the Original
Cons:
Comparisons with the Original
Technicalities:
Music is an asset for 'Premam'. Rajesh Murugesam's chartbuster track 'Evareâ¦' and Background Score at crucial juncture have elevated the overall appeal of the movie. Gopi Sundar, on the other hand, added few fresh tunes to the album. All the songs were situational and carries the mood of the film. Cinematography by Karthik is top notch. From start to finish, Every frame is being presented in a beautiful manner. Editing is crisp. Production Values are too good. Director Chandoo Mondeti of 'Karthikeya' fame showed yet again that he belongs to a different league. Without missing the soul of the original, He made necessary changes to suit the Telugu nativity. Dialogues penned by him were heart-touching & have a lot of depth - 'Prema Lo Gelavadalu, Odadalu Undav', 'Nenu Premisthunnadi Naa Feelings Nu. Avi Nathone Untayi, Kabatti Nenu Preminchina Vyakthi Duramga Vellina Ibbandi Undadhu'. Though its a remake, Chandoo has left a mark of his own on it.
Analysis:
Attempting Remakes is no less than walking on a double-edged sword and heavy price should be paid if the soul of original wasn't retained. Director Chandoo Mondeti didn't let that happen with his expertise in dealing love stories at multiple stages of a Youth. At some point in life, Every person have a crush on someone or falls in love. 'Premam' will be like a experience to cherish for all of them.
Audience doesn't get a feeling of watching a movie but the life journey of a Youth named Vikram. They could relate themselves to the scenes which were natural and so close to the reality. There is no scope for melodrama or formulaic sequences in the movie.
'Premam' Team collectively took the responsibility of Remaking a classic and came out with flying colors. Secret behind the success of Telugu version is retaining the essence of the original. Chandoo Mondeti found a perfect balance between feel-good elements and Telugu nativity. He trimmed the Teenage love story and added more depth to the portions featuring Madonna Sebastian. College Episode of Naga Chaitanya and Shruti Haasan is a major highlight of 'Premam'. The way its been concluded touches everyone's heart and makes them feel sorry for the Hero.
Compared to the Malayalam version, Telugu 'Premam' is fast paced and there is hardly any dull moment. Even Entertainment Quotient is upped to cater to a wider audience. Those who had already seen the Original have been in a dilemma on the Remake. All their doubts have been cleared with a highly promising Telugu version and even they could find Naga Chaitanya-starrer so endearing. Overall, 'Premam' o offers a beautiful experience & be prepared to fall in love once again.
Bottom Line: Highly Recommended!
