Keerthy Suresh's latest offering 'Penguin' which was produced by talented director Karthik Subbaraj is now streaming on Amazon Prime. The critics are giving mixed reviews of this film and it is getting an average response from the audience. None of the direct OTT releases completely got positive response till date and the deals are working out well for our producers.
Sources say that Penguin was sold for 7.5 crores. Some others say that Prime bought it for 14 crores but the film was made on a very limited budget of around 5 crores. The entire shooting was completed in a single schedule in Ooty. So, the deal is profitable for the producer.
But Amazon Prime Video has spent good money on the film publicity as the trailer has been telecasted regularly from the past few days. The film was released in three languages which means the publicity was done in all three areas. Experts estimate that it would have cost heavily for the OTT platform.
But they are not looking at it as a burden but as an investment. They are trying to increase their membership and library for now. In the meanwhile, films like 'Nishabdham' and 'Miss India' are still negotiating with Amazon Prime.
