Ram Gopal Varma Files Case On Censor Board

Update: 2019-03-17 10:18 GMT
Ram Gopal Varma decided to file a case on the Censor Board for allegedly trying to stop the release of Lakshmi's NTR in an illegal manner. The Maverick Filmmaker took this decision after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) signed a letter informing that his application seeking Censor Screening can't be processed until the completion of First Phase of 2019 Elections (11-04-2019).

Varma disclosed that a material containing the statement of Lakshmi Parvathi against TDP was attached to the Letter of Censor Board. He, however, feels the reason quoted by the CBFC has absolutely no relevance to the content of the film.

RGV made it clear that CBFC has no power to delay the processing of a movie on grounds of model code of conduct even before viewing it. He termed the move of the Censor Board as 'pre-censorship' which accounts to violation of Freedom of Expression under Article 19 of the Constitution of India.

The Filmmaker ruled out any association with political parties or candidates contesting in 2019 Polls. He clarified none of the producers, directors and artists of Lakshmi's NTR are contesting upcoming elections. 'In view of all the above I am going to court against the censor board in the context of their abuse of a responsible position,' he told.
