Rebel Star Krishnamraju is no more

Telugu film industry's rebel star, producer, politician and former union minister Krishnam Raju is no more. He passed away after a brief battle with illness at a private hospital. He was 83.  The end came at 3.25 am at the Asian Institute of GastroEnterology in Gachibowli.

Bahubali actor Prabhas is his elder brother's son. Krishnam Raju has three daughters – Prakeerthi, Pradeepthi, Prasiddhi – and wife. Born into the royal family of Mogaltur in West Godavari district, exceptionally tall Krishnamraju made his mark in the film industry, first as an anti-hero and then as a hero.  He acted in several hit films like Jeevana Tarangalu, Bhakta Kannappa, Manavuri Pandavulu, Katakatala Rudraiah, Rangoon Rowdy, Golkonda Abbulu and Bobbili Brahmanna. His last film was Radheshyam, where he played the role of the guru of hero Prabhas. He produced several hit films and was also a well-known homoeopath in the film industry.

He was known as a rebel star for the themes he chose and the histrionics he displayed. He carved a niche for himself at a time when NTR, ANR, Krishna and Sobhan Babu were ruling the roost. His distinctive style of acting has won many fans.

Krishnamraju also dabbled in politics. He contested from Narsapur on Congress ticket and lost. Later, he joined the BJP and won as an MP in 1998 from Narasapuram. He was made a deputy minister for foregin affairs. Later, he joined Praja Rajyam Party and returned to the BJP. Of late, he was not keeping good health and was hospitalized multiple times.
