Route Films Dragging Tollywood Back!

Over the past few years, the Telugu cinema has developed leaps and bounds. Thanks to Rajamouli, Tollywood got access to the pan-Indian market. He made everyone turn towards Telugu cinema with his 'Baahubali' franchise. Prior to that, Tollywood films are always known for commercial entertainers that cater to the image of star heroes. But 'Baahubali' changed the way people look at the Telugu film industry.

He proved the strength of Telugu cinema once again with 'RRR' which made more than 1100 crores. Sukumar's 'Pushpa' was loved all over the country and everyone is eagerly waiting for the second part. Also, movies like 'Jersey' and 'Arjun Reddy' were appreciated by a lot of people. Many movies from Telugu are being remade into Hindi which shows the strength in our stories.

Just when Tollywood is reaching greater heights, a few routine commercial entertainers are pulling it back. We have seen Megastar's 'Acharya' which was a huge failure. Starting from story to performances, nothing worked for that project. Now, Mahesh Babu's 'Sarkaru Vaari Paata' is also blamed for being very monotonous. Though Superstar's performance is being praised by many, the routine narration and lack of quality writing has let down the film heavily. It may get good money but these kinds of films are certainly dragging Tollywood back.

It is not a crime to make commercial entertainers. But there should be good content in the film rather than the filmmakers trying to cater to the fans of the star hero most of the time. It is time that directors need to take a serious look at themselves and their scripts.
