'Thackeray', the biopic of Shiv Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray, stirred a controversy before it's release.
Hero Siddharth objected the manner in which Bal Thackeray's Hate Speech against South Indians was glorified in the movie. Quoting the dialogue uttered by lead actor Nawazuddin Siddique (Uthao Lungi Bajao Pungi), He opined: 'It's clearly hate speech against South Indians and glorifying the person (Bal Thackeray) who said it. Are you planning to make money out of this propaganda? Stop selling hate! Scary stuff!'.
Siddharth didn't hesitate to say that so much hate sold with such romance and heroism (music, tiger roars, applause, jingoism) in 'Thackeray'. He went on to say that no solidarity was shown to the millions of South Indians and Immigrants who make Mumbai great. He didn't mind using the hash tag '#HappyElections' to convey that the biopic is intended to attain political mileage.
Good to see at least one South Indian Actor come forward to raise valid questions and make public think about it. Well done Siddharth!
