SR Kalyanamandapam, a relatively low-budget film featuring upcoming actor Kiran Abbavaram in the lead role hit the silver screens this weekend. The film released in theaters on 6th August and it posted reasonably good numbers at the box officers across the twin Telugu states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The box office performance of this film has come as a pleasant surprise to Tollywood. After last week's releases, Thimmarasu and Ishq disappeared without a trace at the box office, doubts were raised about the theatrical business in the Telugu states. It was even said that audiences are not willing to flock to the theaters amid the Covid outbreak. So, a few biggies, including Nani's Tuck Jagadish looked set to head the OTT way. However, the good box office performance of SR Kalyanamandapam has given new hopes to Vishwak Sen's Paagal which had wrapped the shoot recently.

Now, Paagal has locked its theatrical release date. The makers have announced that the film will be out in theaters on the 14th of August. The film is all set to hit the big screens across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana next weekend. It can also bank on the Independence Day holiday. The makers are planning to hold a round of whirlwind promotions very soon as they intend to build solid pre-release buzz to the film, just ahead of its theatrical release.

Paagal is billed to be a youth-centric comedy drama. The protagonist has 1600 different love stories. How can a person have 1600 love stories? What is the back story behind it? What is the male lead Vishwak Sen's characterization? The answers to these questions form the rest of the plot. The film is directed by debutante Naressh Kuppili and produced by Dil Raju. Nivetha Pethuraj, Meghaleka, and Simran Chaudhary play the lead roles in the youthful love drama. If this film also fairs well at the box office, we can expect a few more Telugu films to lock theatrical release in the next few days. It can also revive the theatrical business in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. More details about the project are under the wraps for now.
