In Kollywood, hero Sarath Kumars daughter (step daughter of yesteryear heroine Radhika) Vara Lakshmi made her debut into films and is struggling to prove her worth.According to sources Varalakshmi playing the role of prostitute in one of the film directed by award winning director Bala.
The film titled Tharai Thappatta is considered as a prestigious project and Shriya was first considered to play the role. But as the film maker wanted a girl who has looks and body language of a South Indian. Hence Vara Lakshmi was finalized for the movie.
In the first half she would be seen as a Karagattam dancer and in the second half a prostitute according to the sources.Since the role has the scope to win National Award, Varalakshmi insisted to dub her own voice for her character in the film. He also made her to eat according to the physique required for the roles. The director subsequently asked Vara laxmi to lose ten kilograms for the film.
Before starting the shooting of the film, Bala instructed both the actors to learn Karagattam and should not commit any other film. The music for the film is composed by Illaiyaraja.
