They are seasons in Telugu Cinema that can handle the clashes and multiple big releases but nothing can handle releases like Sankranthi. For Sankranthi you can release two or more movies on the same day or in same week and they all can become profitable too. Last year, for Sankranthi four films released and all four managed to be profitable. This year Sankranthi too saw three releases and all became profitable too.
Taking that as an example, for Independence Day long weekend, three films have been released but the magic did not repeat. Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Jaya Janaki Nayaka LIE released on the same day. But only Nene Raju Nene Mantri, Jaya Janaki Nayaka ended up with some collections but LIE got washed out everywhere. The movie had decent content but it could not survive the movies like Jaya Janaki Nayaka and Nene Raju Nene Mantri that were more concentrated on mass audience while LIE had too many elements that could confuse audience.
The movie would have been successful or marginally profitable during any other date had it not had to fight it out with other films. Now, on 8th September without many holidays to come, four films are releasing. Even for Dussehra last year out of four films, only one managed to survive, that is Premam. Now, in these four films, Yuddham Saranam, Vedevadu, Okkadu Migiladu and Meda Mida Abbayi, only one could survive even though others have content going for them. As Dussehra season is around the corner and biggies like Jai Lava Kusa and Spyder are releasing, we can say that the makers should have waited for another date after at least watching LIE fate!
