Overseas: Telugu Films Dominate The Top 10

Update: 2017-08-03 09:49 GMT
We all know that Overseas has become a big market for Telugu films in the past few years.  But very few people predicted that Tollywood films will dominate Hindi and Tamil films in the USA.  That's has already happened.  If we take the Indian films released at the US box office this year, five Telugu films featured in the top ten Indian films list.  Five other films are Bollywood films.  Surprisingly, no Tamil film has featured in this top 10 list.

'Baahubali 2' is leading the list with $20 million gross, the highest collections for any Indian film till now. Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Raees' collections are at $3.63 million.  We can see the gap between the collections of first ranked 'Baahubali 2' and second ranked 'Raees'.  It is interesting to note that some of our Telugu films have collected more than Salman Khan,  Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan films.  Some opine that Telugu speaking population is high in North America is one reason for it and another reason is the increasing popularity of Tollywood films.

The recent entry to the top 10 list is 'Fidaa'.  It is slowly inching towards $2 million mark.  Upcoming Telugu films like 'Spyder'.. 'LIE'.. 'Jai Lava Kusa' have the potential to find a place in the top ten.  If that happens, Tollywood will completely overshadow Hindi, Tamil films in the overseas market this year.

Have a look at the top ten list.
