2020 gave many surprises to Bollywood. A few big films ended up as duds at the box office and small films like The Kashmir Files emerged as one of the big hits. The film had a decent start at the box office and saw a steady rise in the shows. The positive talk helped the film.

Besides good talk, The Kashmir Files also got surrounded by a few controversies. The Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party endorsing the film and making it tax-free in a few states made it face harsh criticism. Many said that it is a propaganda film.

A foreign critic also dubbed the film propaganda and alleged that the film tells only one side of the story. All these reasons gave the film the needed boost and it earned more than Rs 200 crores across the globe as per the information.

Now the film has another thing to cheer about as it was picked for the prestigious Oscars Award under the Best Picture category. The Kashmir Files is among the 301 movies that were picked for the category across the genres and languages. All these films had the criteria that are required to get shortlisted.

In total, The Kashmir Files is the fourth Indian to get shortlisted for the prestigious award. Magnum opus RRR, Kannada sensation Kantara, and Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi are the other films that got selected for the Oscars award.

The Kashmir Files talks about the attacks and atrocities against the Pandit community in the Kashmir Valley in the 1990s. While watching the film many Pandit families recalled the atrocities and cried in theatres only. However, there is also a criticism that the makers tried to exaggerate the attacks on the community.

The Kashmir Files was written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri. He bankrolled the film jointly with Abhishek Agarwal. The film stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and Mithun Chakraborty in pivotal roles.

As four films are competing for the prestigious award fans are hoping that at least one film would make the nation proud on the international stage. Films like Kantara and RRR are competing in multiple categories.
