This OTT giant is failing miserably in India

Update: 2022-01-30 12:46 GMT
Global OTT giant, Netflix is on the top spot in the international market. But the renowned platform is finding it exceedingly hard to crack open the OTT market in India and there is a strong reason behind the same.

With as few as 5.5 million paid subscribers in India, Netflix is not even in the vicinity of its competitors Amazon Prime - 19 million subscribers and Disney+ Hotstar - 49 million subscribers.

One of the main reasons behind Netflix's poor show in the domestic market is that the platform does not have a clue about how to roll out regional content.

Barring Sacred Games, not even a single regional title from Netflix could pull the attention of the domestic audience, which could be cited as the reason behind its frustrating story in India.

Netflix now vows to roll out more region-specific content and has commissioned a dedicated team with strong financial backing to do the same. But whether or not they will be able to gain a foothold in India is a question that can be answered only after the said films and series' are made available for streaming.
