Is Tollywood Wasting A Golden Opportunity?

Update: 2020-10-05 11:50 GMT
Even though many claim that the theatres will be back to its full glory in a couple of months, the mindsets of people is going to change. It may not affect the prospects of big films but small and medium films will definitely face the hurdles.

At this juncture of time, the OTT platforms are a golden opportunity for them. The producers can get good rates for digital rights and the theatre business will come in as a bonus. But this entire plan may not workout now because of the reckless nature of our filmmakers.

During the lockdown, the OTT platforms have come forward to buy many films that are waiting for theatres to reopen. They were given good amounts that helped the producers in recovering their investments. Films like 'V', 'Nishabdham' and 'Orey Bujjiga' would have ended in big losses but they were saved by these OTT platforms.

But the digital platforms who offered good rates earlier may not take that step now as all the above-mentioned films brought losses to them. The amount they spent on these films is inversely proportional to the number of views and subscriptions they got.

Its high time that our filmmakers stop dumping lackluster films on OTT platforms and they are wasting a great opportunity of business which may help the industry in a big way in the coming days.
