Rise In Number of Users unsubscribing Worries Ott Giant Netflix!

The pandemic time was a peak period for the OTT platforms. Irrespective of their sizes, the platforms saw massive growth and a few platforms entered the show during the same time. With things coming back to normal, the OTT bubble started bursting and the subscribers are leaving the platforms that are not offering a variety of content.

The leading American subscription streaming service Netflix is not an exemption from the dip in subscribers. Reports say that Netflix has lost around one million subscribers. The subscribers left the platform between April and July.

Since last year, the subscribers are coming down and the second quarter of this year saw subscribers bedding goodbye to the platform citing various reasons.

A few reasons are forcing the subscribers to leave the platform. Netflix's prices are the main reason. Compared to other platforms, Netflix charges more for its services, and this is a major reason behind users shifting to other alternatives.

The account holders sharing their accounts is also a big concern. A recent study said that the majority of content consumers use shared accounts. A bunch of people using one person's account doesn't make any sense to Netflix.

On the other hand, the rise in the reach of Telegram is also a setback for the OTT platforms. Almost all the content uploaded on the platforms is available for Telegram users. Who wants to pay for the services when they get the content.

Now Netflix is testing a model of charging money for users who share others' accounts. With this, the platform gets money every time users use other's accounts and after reaching one point the users might think that taking a new account would be cheaper than paying for user accounts.

As a shot in the arm, the platform is believed to have joined hands with Microsoft to design other plans where the subscription rates would be less. However, the users of these accounts might have to deal with the advisements allegedly.

The proposed proposal would work well for Netflix in dealing with tough markets like India. Netflix has tried and failed in exploring the Indian market. Maybe the new module might help it.
