What Goes Behind SIIMA's Selection For Awards?

Update: 2022-09-12 12:32 GMT
South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) is one of the most renowned award ceremonies in South India. The grand event happens every year starting in 2012 where the best from different industries get the recognition they deserve. It is also a place where celebrities from industries across South India meet and have a great time.

The awards will be given to the best in various crafts in filmmaking. Bengaluru hosted the 10th edition of SIIMA events recently. It was organized on the 10th and 11th of September where the awards for Telugu and Kannada were given on the first day while the awards for Tamil and Malayalam were given on the 11th of September.

Allu Arjun's 'Pushpa' bagged the most awards in Telugu. It got awards for Best Movie, Best Director, Best actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Music Director and Best Lyricist categories. While 'Pushpa' is a blockbuster that deserves a lot of praise, movies like 'Akhanda' and 'Love Story' being completely ignored is getting a lot critcism. Also, giving the Best Actress award to Pooja Hegde for her performance in 'Most Eligble Bachelor' has not gone down well with the critics as well as the audience.

People are trolling the organizers for giving Pooja Hegde this award instead of Sai Pallavi for her tremendous performance in 'Love Story'. Some even questioned why Balakrishna did not get an award for 'Akhanda'. Also, there are reports that Sai Pallavi was selected was the Best Actress but it was given to Pooja Hegde in the last minute since the 'Fidaa' actress did not show up on the night. They are also pointing out that it is written as Sai Pallavi in the Best Actress category on the SIIMA and Wikipedia.

Many are commenting that SIIMA is a commercial oganisation and which treats these award ceremonies as business events. They look from an angle where they gauge their success based on viewership which is why they focus mostly on who performs on stage and who gets the awards. For a commercial point of view, Pooja Hegde is more viable and attractive to the sponsers than Sai Pallavi. But there are a few who point out Kangana Ranaut getting the award despite her absence.

There are also complaints that SIIMA only gives awards to people who show up at the event rather than giving them for talent. We need to wait and see how the team of SIIMA responds to these accusations on the internet.
