There are commercial films and then there are critically-acclaimed films. But Tamil director Vetrimaaran is one rare director who managed to make content-oriented films which have set the cash registers ringing. He made films like 'Adukulam', 'Visaranai', 'Asuran', 'Vada Chennai' and others which were highly successful.
He won the national award and Dhanush who acted in most of his films bagged two national awards. Their crime drama 'Vada Chennai' which came out in 2018 was a revelation. Starring Dhanush in the lead, this film based on the gang wars in Chennai was a stupendous hit. Speaking about this film to cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, Vetrimaaran revealed some interesting facts.
He said that Vijay Sethupathi was first approached to play the role of North Madras-based smuggler Rajan. Despite being highly impressed, he couldn't do the film due to his packed schedule. He went to say that his next option was Mass Maharaj Ravi Teja who was blown away by the script but also couldn't do it due to his commitments. Finally, it fell into the hands of Ameer Sultan who was stunning in the film. Looks like Ravi Teja missed a wonderful role.
