Controversial Tamil hero Simbu is getting back on track from the last couple of years with successive hits. His last film 'Maanadu' was a smash hit in Kollywood and Venkat Prabhu's direction was appreciated by many. The film revolves around an incident that happens in a loop and the hero stops it from happening. This film was planned to release simultaneously in Tamil as well as Telugu. STR, SJ Surya and the rest of the team did a couple of promotional interviews in Telugu too. But the film was not released in theatres but the Telugu version is available on the Sony Liv OTT platform.
To everyone's surprise, Suresh Productions bought the remake rights of this film and are planning to bring a recognized hero onboard. There is a story behind acquiring the remake rights for 'Maanadu' as per sources. Apparently, the makers were interested in dubbing the film in Telugu and well-known producer Bunny Vasu supported it too. But the producers of 'Maanadu' made a deal with Rana's casting agency to sell the non-theatrical rights.
In the meanwhile, 'Maanadu' released in Tamil and became a super hit. With this, Rana's team who did not know how to sell the film proposed the idea of getting the remake rights and not dubbing it. They are also becoming the co-producers in the Telugu version and sources suggest Ravi Teja will be playing the lead role. There are also reports that Rana's brother Abhiram will be making his debut with this remake. Daggubati family is known for remakes and it is to be seen what they do with 'Maanadu'.
