Will Cabinet reshuffle turn out to be an anti-climax?

Update: 2021-08-16 12:53 GMT
It is now becoming increasingly clear that the proposed cabinet reshuffle by AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy may not be as earth-shaking as it is being projected. Highly placed sources say that YS Jagan is having second thoughts on making major changes. He is now coming to feel that minimal changes would suffice, according to insiders.

It may be recalled that Jagan had promised a complete overhaul of his council of ministers two-and-a-half years after taking over reins of power. As the two-and-a-half year deadline is inching closer, there are heightened speculations in the YSRCP over the cabinet reshuffle. In fact, this has become the only topic of discussion among the YSRCP leaders these days.

However, sources say that there may not be a major overhaul as promised. Sources say that if huge changes are made, there could be a backlash. Changing senior ministers may not be possible because of the influence these leaders exercise in their districts. Removing them could prove problematic, according to sources. Also, caste and social groups are an important part of Jagan's strategy. Upsetting them too could prove costly. Hence the changes could be minimal, say sources.

Hence, the cabinet reshuffle could be on a minimal basis. Only those absolutely necessary would be replaced. If sources are to be believed, only such ministers who face corruption charges and those who have completely failed in discharging their duties, could be replaced. The other ministers could be continued, sources say.
