Is the TDP bracing up for major political upheaval this August? Yes, say the TDP watchers. Normally, August has been a month of crisis for the TDP. All through, most of the tumultuous developments in the party have happened during the month of August. Will this August too cause an upheaval in the party?
Highly placed sources say that several big industrialists, community leaders and politicians, who have always been backing the TDP are likely to ditch the party by this month-end. Sources say that these leaders see no future in the TDP in Andhra Pradesh as the party is unable to improve its position. The recent string of defeats in Panchyat, ZP and MPTC elections and also the Tirupati bypoll have shown that the TDP has no chances of immediate recovery. Many are beginning to feel that Chandrababu Naidu has lost his Midas touch.
Many party leaders also feel that Lokesh, who himself is defeated in the elections in Mangalagiri, may not be able to lead the party to victory. Several seniors are already ignoring Lokesh Babu. He too is unable to exercise the authority the way he used to exercise before 2019. If sources are to be believed, many funders and financiers of the TDP are said to be having second thoughts about the party and its future. Many of them have reportedly opened up channels with the BJP at the Centre. Though the state unit of the BJP is uninspiring, they feel that association with the Central BJP is going to be a game-changer. Sources say even Chandrababu has an inkling of this development. So, wait for the big bang developments in the TDP and its support structure by the end of this this month, say TDP watchers.
