Sai Dharam Tej maintained a pretty good success rate until he tasted a disaster with 'Tikka'. He now teamed up with Gopichand Malineni who is known for commercial entertainers to bounce back. Has the strategy of Mega Hero worked?

Synopsis:

Siddharth (Sai Dharam Tej), a creative head of newspaper, runs away from his home when he was a child as he dislikes his Father (Jagapathi Babu). This hyper-active Youngster falls in love with Sitara (Rakul Preet Singh) who aspires to be a successful athlete. To call off her marriage with Aadi (Anoop Singh), Rakul takes a decision and it eventually forces Siddharth to compete with her Fiance in horse racing. Has Siddharth succeeded in his love mission & got reunited with his Dad? Watch the movie to know more!

Performances:

The new look tried by Sai Dharam Tej suited him to the T. Nothing much to say about his acting prowess. Tej imitates his uncles in few scenes, particularly the body language resembles to that of Megastar. Even a conscious attempt wasn't made to explore the dancing ability of Tej. So, Mega Fans will be mightily disappointed.

Rakul Preet Singh increased the glamour dose by a big margin and she is at her sexy best. However, No brownie points for performance this time.

Jagapathi Babu tried his best to bring depth to the movie. Anoop Singh Thakur as antagonist doesn't leave a big impact. Pruthvi as Singham Sujatha and Vennela Kishore as Padma tickle the funny bone. Ali was wasted. Mukesh Rushi, Suresh and Raghu Babu were just alright.

Pros:

Rakul Preet Singh's Glamour

Comedy Tracks of Pruthvi & Vennela Kishore

Cons:

Screenplay

Direction

Second Half

Technicalities:

Music composed by SS Thaman is passable. Only 'Pichonni Aipoya' & 'O Sitara' stand out in the album. Background Score is ordinary & it didn't elevate the scenes at all. Camera Work by Chota K Naidu is just fine. Dialogues by Abburi Ravi were okayish. Production Values aren't on a grand note. Horse Racing concept is quite interesting, but the problem is with the execution. Gopichand Malineni made 'Winner' look like yet another routine and formulaic film with his poor screenplay despite horse racing backdrop.

Analysis:

Gopichand Malineni is known for Mass Masala Subjects. All of his previous films have good dose of entertainment and few interesting twists but such elements were missing in 'Winner'. There is nothing much this formula-based flick offers except for the glamour dose of Rakul and comedy tracks of Pruthvi & Vennela Kishore.

From start to finish, 'Winner' doesn't deviate from the age old formula audience had seen in countless films. The only difference here is the horse racing backdrop but the impact was missing due to terrible execution. Scenes of Hero's preparation for horse race looks outright silly. Even the crucial Climax sequence wasn't executed well.

First Half of 'Winner' is partly entertaining. It's the Second Half which tests the patience of the viewers to the fullest. Comedy Track of Ali failed miserably. Emotional scenes of depicting love/hate relationship of Hero & his Father were just satisfactory. The much-highlighted item number of Anasuya is watchable and her fans won't be disappointed.

Had if Gopichand Malineni picturized the Horse Race episodes with conviction, The whole team could have been real Winners Today. Not much effort has gone into the making of this crucial episode which is the soul of the movie. The kind of emotion required in the penultimate scenes is missing and hence audience weren't able to root for the protagonist in a big way. Overall, 'Winner' is a kind of subject which could have set the cash registers ringing if dealt well but poor execution let's it down completely.

Bottom Line:
Not a 'Winner' at all!
