Popular streaming platform Netflix is in trouble as the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) took action against them for showing explicit content to minors. NCPCR have been looking into the child safety in content coming from Bollywood and other media in India.

A group named Save Culture, Save Bharat Foundation lodged a complaint as Netflix reportedly violated the laws that were meant to protect children from sexual offences. NCPCR held talks with Netflix on 29th July 2024 following the press mee from Save Culture, Save Bharat Foundation where they demanded the government to ban X (Twitter) and Netflix for breaching the laws.

They even handed the proofs to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The group even suggested some new changes in the rules for streaming platforms regarding the language, themes and scenes. They demand long prison sentences, severe penalties and other actions for people who violate these rules.

Netflix is not new to legal issues as some of its content was quite controversial. Recently, 'Maharaj' had to go through a big legal battle in order to be released on streaming platforms. They are known for touching sensitive topics, careless handling of religious sentiments and breaching ethical codes.
