Why Chiranjeevi So Desperate on Sankranthi?

Megastar Chiranjeevi is once again at the centre of the Sankranthi release discussion. However, this time the situation is slightly different. His two films, Kaaka and Vishwambhara, are being linked to the same festive season. This has created a lot of discussion among Telugu cinema fans.

Chiranjeevi has always shown interest in releasing his films during Sankranthi. The festival is one of the biggest movie seasons in Telugu states. Families usually prefer watching films during the holidays, and big stars often target this period. So, a Sankranthi release can be very important for a star film.

This time, Kaaka has already officially locked January 13, 2027, as its release date. The makers recently made it clear that there is no change in their plans. Director Bobby Kolli also confirmed that the film is coming for Sankranthi.

At the same time, there has been speculation that Chiranjeevi's long-delayed Vishwambhara could also target Sankranthi 2027. However, there is still no official confirmation from the Vishwambhara team about this release date.

This naturally raises a question. Why is there so much focus on Sankranthi? If the story and content of a film are strong, why should the release festival matter so much?

The answer could be related to the business side of cinema. Sankranthi gives films a long holiday period and usually attracts a large number of family audiences. Big-budget films also get an opportunity to earn strongly if they connect with the audience. Therefore, producers may see the festival as an important business window.

For Vishwambhara, there is another factor. The film has already faced delays, reportedly including extensive VFX work. After spending a long time in production, the makers may want a release period that gives the film strong theatrical opportunities.

Still, releasing two films featuring the same hero during the same festival would be an unusual situation. It could also divide the audience and theatres.

For now, Kaaka is officially confirmed for January 13, 2027, while the Sankranthi plans of Vishwambhara remain unclear. So, the real question is not simply why Chiranjeevi wants Sankranthi, but which film will finally occupy the festival window.
