Dhurandhar 2: Disappointment for Indian Audience?
The twist is that Jio Cinemas, the producer of the film, has sold the first part’s digital streaming rights to Netflix earlier, but then, they have retained the rights of Part 2 for themselves.;
Director Aditya Dhar and his hero Ranveer Singh have delivered a punch with Dhurandhar 1, but then they have given a knockout punch and match-winning bout with Dhurandhar 2 just three months later. Back then, when Dhurandhar 1 got released on Netflix, it became another sensation out there. And now, everyone is waiting for the arrival of Dhurandhar 2 on the OTT, as the film is going to be near two months of theatrical run in another week.
The twist is that Jio Cinemas, the producer of the film, has sold the first part’s digital streaming rights to Netflix earlier, but then, they have retained the rights of Part 2 for themselves. At the time of selling Dhurandhar 1 rights, no one even had a clue that the makers were coming with another part. However, the producers have sold the overseas digital streaming rights of Dhurandhar: The Revenge to Netflix only, and from May 15th, the film will be available to everyone in the world except for those in India.
Cut to Jio Hotsar, the digital arm of the production house, till date, there has been no announcement about the film’s streaming in India from next week. Hotstar sources are saying that the makers might surprise with that in the last minute. However, some trade circles observed that Jio Cinemas is of the opinion that Dhurandhar 2 is still getting footfalls, and as there are no good films at the box office now, it’s better to continue Dhurandhar 2 in theatres till the Summer season gets over.
But for Dhurandhar 1, even after the film started to stream on Netflix, it got huge ticket sales in theatres. So, rather disappointing Indian OTT audience, it’s better to go ahead with May 15th streaming.
