A top industry producer has opened up about the approach to sequels in Tollywood, citing Dhurandhar as a prime example. He noted that if the film had been made by a different director with a different hero, the outcome could have been very different.

According to the producer, it’s common for Part 2 of a hit franchise to see major changes in story, bigger budgets, and extended shooting schedules. After a successful Part 1, filmmakers often try to scale everything up, sometimes at the cost of story integrity, he explained.

He also highlighted a familiar trend, popular characters from the first film, such as Akshay in Dhurandhar, are often shoehorned into the sequel, even if the narrative doesn’t call for them, simply to capitalize on their previous success.

However, he praised the Dhurandhar team for staying committed to the story and avoiding unnecessary gimmicks, which he called the franchise’s biggest strength.
