One of the most hyped movies in recent times is none other than director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar 2, which hit cinemas two weeks ago. While film has already collected more than ₹1300 crores gross from the worldwide box office, beating the total lifetime collection of Part 1, it has broken records created by movies like Baahubali 2 at the USA box office, also. However, some folks are feeling sad that the film isn’t being well-received by the Telugu audience.
The Telugu audience is known for patronising good films from any language. The success of Tamil heroes like Suriya, Karthi, Vishal, and others has happened due to the very same reason. In recent times, even Malayalam films are doing well at the Telugu box office. However, well-made Kannada films like the KGF series and the Kantara series have done extremely well in Telugu states, with more than ₹100+ crores gross for the Telugu dubbed version alone. What about Dhurandhar 2 now?
Much hyped Dhurandhar 2 has only made ₹25 crores gross from the Telugu dubbed version, while earlier, a film like Kantara grossed nearly ₹110 crores with the dubbed version. That puts the spotlight, as Bollywood trade experts are crying that Telugu folks are not encouraging Hindi movies like how the North hinterlands did with Baahubali and Pushpa. That’s an interesting debate.
Telugu trade pundits say that both Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil films usually have the same South Indian flavour, and that will work big time when dubbed in Telugu. However, Dhurandhar has a lot of North flavour, and the film happens in Pakistan, and all things might have played spoilsport in the B&C centres. However, one should look at the bright side that both parts of Dhurandhar would be grossing ₹100 crores from the Telugu states, including all versions; that’s a good sign.
