Bollywood has a new box-office emperor, and the name is “Dhurandhar”, featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead, while Aditya Dhar helmed it. With Jio Studios, the producer of the film, officially announcing the numbers and the crowning moment, currently, Bollywood is in celebration mode.
Confirming that Dhurandhar’s Hindi version collected ₹831.40 crores from the Indian box office alone, Jio Studios thanked the audience for making the film the highest Hindi grosser at the moment. Earlier, this position was occupied by Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, as the Sukumar directorial collected ₹830 crores in its lifetime and surprised all the Bollywood pundits.
Though many in the trade felt that beating Pushpa 2 would not be possible for any film other than some commercial masala movies from the Khans, now Dhurandhar usurped the throne, much to everyone’s surprise. On its fifth Tuesday (Day 33 of release), Dhurandhar achieved this mighty feat, and the film continues to post almost ₹5+ crores nett total even now at the Bollywood box office.
With Dhurandhar firmly seated on the throne, those Bollywood biggies who have stayed mum for weeks have finally started to write about the film on their social media handles. The film’s journey has redefined what is possible in the post-COVID era and how a spy thriller could be narrated from a different perspective.
