Can Anyone Dare to Make a Film Like Dorothy?

Some films are easy to make, while others need a lot of courage to bring to the screen. Dorothy belongs to the second category. The film explores an unusual subject that many filmmakers may hesitate to choose. But director Karthik Subbaraj has taken the risk of presenting this different story to audiences.

Not every filmmaker is ready to handle a subject like Dorothy. It needs courage to select a story that may not please everyone. The film moves away from regular commercial cinema and tries to show something different. Instead of depending only on entertainment, it makes viewers think about society, relationships and the way people judge others.

The story follows two friends whose lives begin to change after Dorothy enters their world. The film explores how social rules and personal beliefs can affect people's lives. Its bold concept is one of the main reasons why it stands apart from regular movies.

Choosing a bold subject alone is not enough to make a film successful. The director must also present it in an interesting and convincing way. This is where execution becomes very important.

Fortunately, Dorothy brings together a different concept and a raw storytelling style. The film does not depend on the usual commercial formula. Its grounded presentation helps the story create an impact. The music by Ilaiyaraaja also adds emotional depth to several moments.

But a film with an unusual concept may not connect with every viewer. Some audiences may appreciate the director's courage, while others may find the subject uncomfortable. Such mixed reactions are understandable because the film does not try to please everyone.

One point that could have been better is Keerthy Suresh's character. Her role feels brief, and the character could have been developed further. Giving her more screen time and a stronger character arc might have made the film even more effective.

Still, despite having a limited role, Keerthy makes an impact. Dorothy is a film that deserves attention for its bold subject and different approach. The concept requires courage, and the execution plays an important role in bringing it to life. The film is now streaming on Netflix, including a Telugu version. If you enjoy unusual stories and films that make you think, Dorothy is worth considering for your watchlist.
