Is Watching Movies With Family Becoming Difficult?

Watching a movie with the entire family is becoming difficult these days. Earlier, many Telugu films were made in a way that parents could watch them with their children without feeling uncomfortable. Family entertainers were a common choice for weekend outings. But things are slowly changing.

Today, even films that are promoted as family entertainers sometimes include bold scenes, intimate moments or adult content. This is creating a new problem for families. Parents may want to take their children to a movie, but they are not always sure what kind of scenes will appear on the screen.

The recent discussion around EPIC is one example. Producer Naga Vamsi said that audiences can enjoy the film with their families. However, the film has an A certificate. This means children cannot watch it in theatres along with their parents. The film also deals with mature subjects such as live-in relationships and intimacy.

This raises an interesting question. If a film is meant mainly for adults, why should it be presented as a family movie? At the same time, should every movie made for adults be expected to avoid bold scenes?

Cinema is changing because society is changing. Filmmakers are trying different stories and subjects. Young audiences are also more familiar with content from different parts of the world through OTT platforms and social media. So, bold or mature content is no longer unusual for many viewers.

But family audiences still want some movies that they can watch together. There is nothing wrong with making mature films, but filmmakers should clearly communicate who the movie is meant for. The audience should also understand the certificate and content before buying tickets.

Perhaps the solution is not to ask directors to stop making bold movies. Instead, filmmakers can make different types of films for different audiences. Families can choose clean entertainers, while adults can choose mature stories.

As generations change, cinema will also change. The important thing is clear communication and responsible choices. A family should not feel uncomfortable simply because they expected a family entertainer.

Ultimately, it may not be only the directors who need to change. The audience also needs to understand that every movie is not made for every age group.
