Are Over Expectations The Reason For 'Leo' Failure?
While Lokesh is known for his supreme technical quality, he picked up a very outdated line for 'Leo' and dealt with human sacrifices like it is the 80s or 90s.
Having anything too much in life is always dangerous. Everything has to have a limit. Lokesh Kanagaraj has understood it in the hard way with 'Leo'. The hype in the market for the film, its promotions and the huge craze for 'Leo' may give the movie huge openings and record breaking collections in Tamil Nadu but it got a negative talk in the other states. People who expected a lot while stepping into theatres were disappointed heavily. The netizens say that same as well. Though the advance bookings may guarantee a huge opening weekend, the collections would have been massive had the movie reached those expectations.
In retrospect, one could say that over confidence of Lokesh Kanagaraj and too much of belief on the director from the side of audiences are also reason for the film's disappointment. Lokesh created a cinematic universe with 'Vikram' and opened doors to a lot of possibilities. The audience got too excited about it and hoped for something on the lines of Marvel Cinematic Universe or DC Universe where characters from different films come together. But Lokesh is still in his early stages of setting up with cinematic universe. Also, using it as a tool for 'Leo' and forcibly including it at the end also played a spoilsport.
While Lokesh is known for his supreme technical quality, he picked up a very outdated line for 'Leo' and dealt with human sacrifices like it is the 80s or 90s. On top of that, he asked everyone to watch 'Khaidi' and 'Vikram' before watching 'Leo' which increased the hype too much. Now, Lokesh has Rajni's 171st film in his hands. The result of 'Leo' will not have any effect on it but Lokesh needs to be more careful while penning the screenplay this time. He needs to bring back the 'Khaidi' director in him as he cannot repeat the same mafia story like 'Leo' with Rajnikanth. Let us see what happens.
