Tollywood @ February: What Is In Store?

Usually, the February month is considered as a non effective one for Tollywood. Due to the constrained theatrical market, the history dictates that not many films that have released in the month of February have gone to perform well at the box office.

However, this tradition is having no impact on Tollywood this year as multiple films are lined up for release this February. The most prominent title of the list is Thandel which marks the coming together of Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi.

Thandel is releasing on February 7th and it is projected to work well at the box office. This film has a lot going its way as it is produced by the usually successful GA2 pictures and it also has the successful pairing of Chay and Sai Pallavi.

On the other hand, we have youngsters, Vishwak Sen and Kiran Abbavaram, who are knocking at the ticket counters with Laila and Dilruba, respectively. Interestingly, enough, both these films which are aimed at the younger generation of the audience are releasing on February 14 on the occasion of Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day usually draws audience to theatres in substantial numbers, and this could pretty much play to the strengths of both these films. But a lot relies on the actual word of mouth that they can gain on the day of release.

Apart from that, we have two dubbed films, arriving this February in the form of Pattudala(Feb 6) and Dragon(Feb 21). Both these films appear to be content oriented once, and they could perhaps attract the Telugu audience if they gain good reviews.

Lastly, we have Baapu which is a dark comedy set in the rural backdrop of Telangana. This earnest attempt is releasing in theatres on February 21.

Now that the official lineup of Tollywood for the month of February is locked and loaded, we have to wait and see how many of these films will be actually able to attract the audience to theatres in big numbers.
