Reports reveal that the movie earned between Rs. 1.70 to Rs. 1.75 crores on its first day in India. This performance adds it to the list of Viacom and Paramount Pictures' films with low openings. Earlier this year, another movie by the same production house, The Quiet Place: Day One, also underperformed, earning just Rs. 45 lacs on its first day.
In the past two years, Viacom and Paramount released several sequels, including Scream and Transformers. Unfortunately, these films failed to attract large audiences. Only franchises like Marvel and DC consistently bring viewers to theaters in India. For example, Deadpool & Wolverine opened to Rs. 20 crores and maintained strong earnings throughout its first week.
Hollywood films have faced challenges in the Indian market since the COVID-19 pandemic. High ticket prices and less engaging storylines are key reasons for this struggle. Indian audiences now prefer movies with strong narratives and memorable experiences.
To regain their popularity, Hollywood must prioritize quality over quantity. While franchises like Gladiator hold potential, they need more captivating content to compete with local and other international productions.
